BERLIN -- A German publication says a suspected Islamic terrorist linked to a group convicted of plotting attacks on U.S. facilities in Germany has been killed in Pakistan.

News website Spiegel Online reported Monday that Erich Breininger had been killed April 30 in what appeared to be a battle with soldiers in Pakistan's border region with Afghanistan.

Breininger had been sought by German prosecutors since 2008 on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization.

Breininger was born in Germany and is believed to have been recruited to Islam by members of a cell convicted of plotting to attack U.S. targets in Germany.
