Fires sweeps through shantytown on outskirts of Sao Paulo

SAO PAULO – A fire is sweeping through a slum on the outskirts of Brazil's biggest city, and authorities say hundreds of people have had to flee as flames consume wooden homes.

Fire department officials say the fire has destroyed most of the shantytown in Osasco, a suburb on the edge of Sao Paulo.

There are no immediate reports of injuries or deaths.
