The FBI says a California man wanted for murder and attempted murder has been returned to the United States after a year on the run and two years in custody in Guatemala.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller says 62-year-old Santos Lopez Corado fled to Central America after an arrest warrant was issued in February 2012.

Eimiller says Corado is charged in Los Angeles County with attempting to kill his wife and killing an associate. Details of the alleged crimes were not released.

Corado was arrested in January 2013 by authorities in Guatemala, where he was working as a bus driver in the town of Jutiapa. He was extradited to the U.S. on Friday and turned over to Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies.

It wasn't immediately known if he has a lawyer.
