ANKARA, Turkey – A small bomb exploded on a beach in a Mediterranean resort on Sunday, slightly injuring six people and causing panic, a news report said.
The bomb went off on a beach in the town of Kemer, in Antalya province, a resort that is popular with tourists from Germany, the Netherlands and Russia, NTV news channel reported. It was not immediately known whether the injured included foreign visitors.
It said the bomb was buried in the sand and that the injured were mostly hurt by flying stones.
The Antalya governor's office confirmed that six people were lightly injured in a "small explosion" but said the cause of the blast was not immediately known.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Kurdish rebels fighting for autonomy in southeastern Turkey have carried out deadly attacks at tourist resorts in the past.
