An avalanche on a mountain pass in northern Nepal has killed four trekkers from Poland, Israel and Nepal.

Nepalese army official Niranjan Shrestha says rescuers have recovered the bodies, including two Poles, from the Thorong La pass, about 160 kilometers (100 miles) northwest of the capital, Katmandu.

Shrestha said army rescuers from nearby training camps were able to reach some of the trekkers and bring them safely to the nearest town.

Last week's cyclone in neighboring India has triggered rains and snow in Nepal's northern mountains.

The weather cleared up on Wednesday, allowing rescuers and trekkers to reach safer grounds.
