Army officer dies after collapsing running London Marathon

An Army officer who suffered a cardiac arrest three miles from the finish line of the London marathon has died.

Captain David Seath, 31, from Arbroath, Angus, collapsed as he neared the 23-mile mark and was taken to St. Thomas' Hospital by ambulance.

He was an officer in 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery who was currently based in Plymouth, Devon, and had served in Afghanistan.

His mother Libby said: "David has achieved more in 31 years than most people do in 70. He lived his life on the edge and to the full."

Lieutenant Colonel Jon Cresswell, his commanding officer, said: "We have lost one of the great characters of our regiment and take strength from the memory of his example and leadership."

His devastated friends have pledged to walk the last three miles of the route and "complete what he started, in his honour".
