SAO PAULO – A new poll in Brazil says the approval rating for President Dilma Rousseff has plunged to new lows amid economic woes and a huge corruption scandal at Petrobras, the state energy company.
The survey released Tuesday by the MDA polling institute says only 8 percent of those surveyed consider Rousseff's government to be "great" or "good." By contrast, 71 percent say the government is a "failure."
An MDA poll four months ago put Rousseff's approval rating at 11 percent, while 65 percent of those surveyed said her government was "bad" or "terrible."
The latest MDA poll was conducted for the National Transport Confederation, which represents private transportation businesses. The poll questioned 2,002 people between July 12 and 16 and has a margin of error of two percentage points.
