An Air Canada plane landed safely after it was forced to turn around when its crew detected smoke in the cabin just minutes after the hulking 777 departed from Sydney.
Flight AC34, which carried 264 passengers and was en route to Vancouver, performed what is known as an “air return,” The Sydney Morning Herald reported, a precautionary U-turn. To be sure, the plane’s captain did not declare an emergency.
Emergency personnel greeted the plane at the runway, and there were no immediate reports of injuries.
