One Afghan official was killed and one wounded in separate attacks in Logar province in eastern Afghanistan, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said Wednesday.
Gunmen attacked and killed Gul Mohammad, chief of statistics for Charkh district, as he was returning from morning prayer Tuesday.
Also Tuesday, the director of civil service reform in Puli Alam was wounded in a separate, unspecified attack.
“These tragic incidents will not keep ISAF from assisting our Afghan partners in developing sufficient governance to serve the people of Afghanistan,” Navy Capt. Jane Campbell said in a statement.
The deaths came on the same day that three U.S. soldiers and five Afghan civilians were killed in an attack on a police headquarters in Kandahar province. Five additional U.S. troops were killed Wednesday in two separate attacks in southern Afghanistan.
