Peru's government says an Incan culture and research center it's establishing with Yale University is on track to open next month.

Harold Forsyth, Peru's ambassador to the U.S., also this week awarded Yale President Richard C. Levin with Peru's highest civilian award, The Sun of Peru in the grade of "Great Cross."

The award recognizes work by Levin and Yale to return Incan artifacts from the Machu Picchu citadel to Peru. Yale had received them in the early 20th century from adventurer Hiram Bingham.

Those artifacts will be part of a research and education center Yale and the San Antonio Abad University have agreed to create. The center is set to open Oct. 6 in the Peruvian city of Cusco.
