A Florida man who was wrongfully imprisoned for more than three decades until he was released less than two years ago tied the knot this weekend, checking off the latest item on his long list of firsts.

James Bain, 56, was released from prison in December 2009 after a DNA test cleared him of charges that he raped and kidnapped a 9-year-old boy in 1973, MyFoxTampaBay reported. The state awarded him $1.7 million for his false imprisonment.

Since his release, he has bought a house and an SUV, but he says he’s saving most of his money. Among the other firsts that he can check off are using a cell phone and ringing the Liberty Bell.

“None of these events that are occurring did I think would ever come about,” he told MyFoxTampaBay.
