Authorities say a woman was in critical condition after falling some 75 feet from the Queen Mary ocean liner in Long Beach Harbor into the water.

Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Steve Yamamoto says firefighters received a call at about 8:35 p.m. Monday that a woman had fallen off the ship and a 40-year-old man jumped about 15 feet into the water to rescue her. He says the woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The man also was taken to a hospital for treatment of hypothermia.

Yamamoto says two Long Beach police officers who jumped in the water to help with the rescue were not injured.

The circumstances of the woman's fall are not known.
