Officials at Joint Base Andrews outside of Washington say a woman walked into the visitor control center saying she had a bomb strapped to her chest but no explosives were found.

Master Sgt. Lee Osberry, public affairs officer at Andrews, said by phone that the base went on lockdown about 5:15 p.m. Thursday. He says emergency responders arrived, and personnel and residents were told to avoid the area.

The base said on its Twitter account that the woman was apprehended and no explosive device was found. Emergency personnel were working to secure the area.
