DOVER, Del. – Delaware police are searching for a woman accused of crushing three kittens to death with her hands, WBOC-TV reports.
21-year-old Ashley Barnes has evaded authorities since failing to appear at a preliminary hearing April 25. She is charged with three felony counts of animal cruelty.
Police say Barnes allegedly crushed the kittens while she was staying with friends in Millsboro, Delaware, and that she may have been under the influence of drugs at the time. Authorities say she may have gone to Florida.
Local residents told WBOC-TV they are shocked and disgusted by the allegations against Barnes.
"I don't even have words for it there's just they didn't ask for this and there's no reason anybody should be that cruel," says Teresa Ferrell, President of Josie's Place, a local animal rescue operation.
