Wildfire erupts near central San Diego County near town of Julian, evacuations ordered

A wildfire has broken out in central San Diego County near the mountain town of Julian and 200 homes have been ordered evacuated.

State fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser says the blaze was estimate at 35 to 40 acres at late morning Thursday and is burning toward the east end of Julian. Deputies are going door to door in the Whispering Pines and Kentwood neighborhoods.

Bortisser says the rate of spread is moderate to rapid and there's an immediate structure threat.

Multiple air and ground firefighting resources are committed to the blaze. The cause is unknown and there's no containment.

An evacuation center has been set up at Julian High School.

Julian is adjacent to a section of Cleveland National Forest at an elevation of about 4,200 feet.
