CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A central West Virginia man is accused of attacking a Charleston television reporter with a camera tripod.
State police say 54-year-old Howard Jeffery Lilly of Glen is charged with felony destruction of property, grand larceny and malicious wounding.
WCHS-TV reporter Bob Aaron tells media outlets he had set up his camera and tripod on a public road when the incident occurred Monday. He says he was checking on a tip about neglected animals.
The 67-year-old Aaron suffered a deep tissue bruise to his left leg and a lacerated finger. He was treated at a Charleston hospital and released.
Lilly was being held at the Central Regional Jail on $5,000 bond. Jail records didn't indicate whether he has an attorney.
