A Washington state man who stabbed workers at two animal hospitals after his cat died has been sentenced to three years in prison.

The Bellingham Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1Irf0zW ) that one of Charles Anthony Smith's cats got sick in the fall and he took it to two clinics. The cat died at the second stop.

After he buried the cat, he went to the Maplewood Animal Hospital and stabbed a veterinarian. He then went to the Fountain Veterinary Hospital and stabbed an employee in the neck.

After his arrest, Smith told police that he was upset about his cat's death so he "wanted to hurt people like he had been hurt."

He pleaded guilty in June.

At his sentencing, he expressed remorse, but blamed the workers. He said they killed his cat to punish him for raising his voice.
