A special grand jury will decide if there’s enough evidence to charge a Virginia woman who, while suspended from her job, continued to collect a paycheck for 12 years, the Virginian-Pilot reported.
Jill McGlone, who once worked at the Norfolk Community Services Board, was paid $320,000 over the timeframe even though she performed no work, the paper reported. But last year, a city attorney’s office could not produce evidence of criminal activity.
Last month during a city council meeting, a council member said a criminal act had surely been committed, the report said. The meeting was attended by community and political leaders reportedly frustrated that nobody was facing charges over the situation.
A judge, who says two state statutes allow him to assemble the jury, will apparently appoint a special prosecutor who will call witnesses and have them testify.
