HOUSTON – An Ohio attorney for an American citizen who was imprisoned in Dubai for more than four years on charges of fraud says his client is out of jail on bond and is receiving medical attention.
But Eric Akers says Zack Shahin's family remains concerned for his well-being. He says Shahin spoke to his brother earlier this week but was reluctant to share his whereabouts. Akers says Shahin lost 50 pounds in prison and has heart problems.
Shahin has been accused in Dubai of defrauding the Dubai Islamic Bank out of $501 million. Shahin was CEO of Deyaar Development Co., which began as a subsidiary of the bank.
Shahin's family has said Dubai authorities have mistreated him. His wife who lives in Houston declined to comment.
