TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson police were reviewing video of a woman apparently being shoved by an officer in riot gear during a melee after the University of Arizona basketball team lost in the NCAA tournament.
The Police Department said Sunday that internal affairs is reviewing the video of the Saturday night incident. It occurred as fans took to the streets near campus after the game and hurled beer bottles and firecrackers at officers, who then used pepper spray to disperse the crowd. Fifteen people were arrested, most of whom were university students, police said.
The video shows the officer apparently shoving the woman who's walking by and then she falls onto a bench. The view is partially obscured by a man standing in front of the camera.
Officer Brandon Tatum said police officials weren't immediately available Monday to comment further.
A woman who reportedly took the video didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
Police earlier said nine of the 15 people arrested in the Saturday clash attend the University of Arizona.
University officials vowed to punish students who participated in the fracas.
Dean of Students Kendal Washington White called the disturbance disappointing and said it was not reflective of the culture of the University of Arizona or Tucson.
The ages of the people arrested range from 19 to 29.
