A tropical wave on the heels of Hurricane Earl could strengthen into a tropical depression as early as Monday, forecasters say.

The National Hurricane Center gives the system a 90 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours. If it strengthens, the storm, which is now located about 1,050 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, would be named Fiona.

Showers and thunderstorms are gradually becoming better organized in connection to the low-pressure system, according to a National Hurricane Center forecast released early Monday.
