The Delaware Department of Justice says a state trooper was justified when he shot a man while responding to a report of a home invasion in Ogletown.

The News Journal of Wilmington (http://delonline.us/1UaIwjd ) reports Delaware State Police Trooper Pierre Lawler won't face charges in connection with the shooting.

The department referenced a state standard that says a shooting is justified under state law if the officer feels force is needed for self-protection or to protect others.

Department spokesman Carl Kanefsky says the investigation was handled by the department's Office of Civil Rights and Public Trust.

Lawler shot and wounded James McCardell on Dec. 17. McCardell had been accused of breaking into the home. The 40-year-old McCardell is scheduled to go to trial in August on charges including attempted robbery.
