Authorities say a San Francisco Bay Area transit officer was shot in the arm by a fleeing suspect who was then shot by a second officer.

Bay Area Rapid Transit spokeswoman Denisse Gonzalez says the officer suffered a non-life threatening wound in the Friday morning shooting. She did not know the suspect's condition. Neither the officer nor the suspect was identified.

Gonzalez says officers approached the suspect in a parking area at the Hayward station around 11:15 a.m. As the officers tried to identify the suspect, the suspect ran, turned and shot at the officers in pursuit. The wounded officer and suspect were being treated at a hospital.
