A Louisiana woman turned herself in this week after outraged tipsters recognized her from a viral video showing her stealing money from a 10-year-old girl, authorities said.

Surveillance video from a Shreveport beauty supply store showed the young victim laying $13 on the register counter while she waited to pay. While the girl was distracted playing with a fan, police say Tanika Stephenson took the child's money from the counter, placed it in her purse, and exited the store, according to a KSLA-TV report.

The video went viral after police released it to the media and posted it on the Caddo Crime Stoppers YouTube channel. Numerous leads came in naming Stephenson as the suspect. Some tipsters added information, including Stephenson's Facebook account and a photograph.

Stephenson surrendered to police Monday morning, telling investigators that she'd received many phone calls, several of them negative.

Police arrested and booked Stephenson in Shreveport City Jail for one count of misdemeanor theft.
