The bomb squad has been called in to examine a suspicious item found Thursday morning at Denver Interational Airport where a ramp for departing passengers is closed.

Airport spokesman Heath Montgomery says departing passenger traffic is being diverted from the west side of the airport to the east side while police investigate.

Ticket counters for American Airlines and Alaska Airlines are closed with no bag check-in. Montgomery says the airport is scrambling to find alternate bag check-in places.

The area on the west side of the airport has been roped off while police investigate.
