DURHAM, N.C. – The Latest on the shooting of a North Carolina police officer by a suspect (all times local):
11:45 a.m.
A spokeswoman for the Durham County Sheriff's Office says a Durham police officer was shot outside the secure perimeter of the county's detention facility.
Spokeswoman Tamara Gibbs said in a news release that the center is operating normally after the shooting that occurred shortly before 4 a.m. Monday.
She says the suspect was in the custody of the Durham Police Department when the shooting occurred near the sally port of an area designated for the magistrate at the facility. Prior to entering the secure perimeter, each law enforcement agency provides its own security. Police describe the area as a booking area.
She says a detention officer assisted Durham police in an attempt to control the suspect.

Police say a North Carolina officer has been shot by a suspect he had just brought to the county jail.
Durham police spokesman Wil Glenn tells The News & Observer of Raleigh (http://bit.ly/1LAP334) that the shooting happened just before 4 a.m. Monday, and the officer suffered minor injuries.
It was not immediately clear how the suspect obtained the gun.
Glenn says the officer was treated and released from a hospital. The names of those involved haven't been released.
No other details were immediately available. A spokesman did not immediately respond to messages from The Associated Press on Monday morning.
