Testimony has ended in the trial of a former Miami Beach police officer charged in a 2011 crash in which he struck and seriously injured two people while joy-riding with a woman on a police all-terrain vehicle.

A prosecutor and ex-officer Derick Kuilan's attorney will present closing arguments later Monday. After that, jurors will begin deliberating.

Prosecutors say Kuilan was drinking while on duty when he invited a woman at a South Beach nightclub bachelorette party to take the ATV ride. Kuilan's lawyer says he used bad judgment but committed no crime. Kuilan did not testify.

Kuilan is charged with two counts each of driving under the influence and reckless driving, both with serious bodily injury.

Each charge is punishable by five years in prison.
