Authorities say a Tennessee sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a man following a confrontation that happened while deputies were trying to serve a warrant.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that the shooting happened Monday evening in the unincorporated community of Helenwood in the northern part of the state.

The statement says the suspect was injured and taken to a hospital, but did not say what condition he was in. Authorities have not identified the man or the Scott County Sheriff's Office deputy who shot him. TBI spokeswoman Leslie Earhart said the suspect is white. She would not release the deputy's race.

No further information was immediately available.
