Authorities say a 14-year-old girl fell nearly 100 feet into a well at a Pennsylvania reservoir and landed in cold water.

Officials say the teen was with friends near the Hollister Reservoir in Lackawanna County on Saturday night when she fell into the shaft along a dam's catwalk.

The well is part of a concrete structure known as a dry dam, which functions as a service shaft for the reservoir.

The girl received a broken leg and hypothermia but is expected to recover.

Crews from around the region responded. An officer from the Lehigh Township police department spent three hours in the water with the girl, comforting her until she was extracted. He was also treated for hypothermia.

Officials say the dam is a popular place for teens to swim.
