Tampa Bay-area deputy shot, listed in stable condition; manhunt underway for suspect

THONOTOSASSA, Fla. – Authorities in Florida say a manhunt is underway after a Tampa Bay-area sheriff's deputy was shot.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokesman Larry McKinnon says the deputy is listed in stable condition after the early Thursday morning shooting in Thonotosassa.

McKinnon says deputies were in the area because they were responding to a call of shots fired. They were searching the area on foot when an unknown suspect shot the deputy.

Authorities have established a perimeter in the area to try to find the suspect.
