A Los Angeles SWAT team has surrounded a barricaded residence in Torrance, Calif., after an armed man shot at two passersby handing out fliers and fled into the home.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are trying to convince the gunman to surrender, Capt. Mike Parker told MyFoxLA.

Deputies arrived on the scene after a 5:30 a.m. 911 call summoned them to Torrance, where a man with a handgun had been shooting at two men handing out fliers. The assailant missed the two men but hit a white Chevrolet Astro van three times, Parker told the station.

The suspect then holed up in a nearby house, but it was unclear if it was the suspect's home, Parker said.

Deputies surrounded the residence and evacuated six surrounding homes as a SWAT team and crisis negotiators tried to coax the man out.

Two people came out of the house, but neither one was the suspect, Parker told MyFoxLA..
