LINCOLN COUNTY, W.Va. – A man accused of shooting a West Virginia State Police trooper has pleaded not guilty.
WCHS-TV reports Jeremiah Yeager is accused of shooting Cpl. David Fry twice last year when Fry tried to enter an apartment to intervene in a domestic situation. Fry was shot in the shoulder and wrist.
Yeager has told the Charleston Gazette-Mail he didn't know who was outside his apartment and believed someone was trying to break in.
A criminal complaint says police were responding to a domestic call where the victim says Yeager choked her with a phone cord until she passed out.
Yeager pleaded not guilty Tuesday to attempted first-degree murder, two counts of malicious wounding, strangulation and two counts of wanton endangerment.
Yeager returns to court on March 2.
