A driver in Washington state led officers on a high-speed chase across two counties over the weekend because he was “bored and just wanted to do it,” investigators revealed.
David McNalley, 30, had no warrants or prior convictions and had a valid driver's license when officers said he sped through an intersection near Olympia late Saturday, The News Tribune reported.
After burning rubber, a sheriff's deputy tried to pull him over. Instead, the suspect reportedly took off -- in his 1994 Mercury Sable.
The chase lasted for more than an hour at speeds approaching 85 miles per hour. It crossed two counties and 49 miles before the suspect hit a fence and officers could finally arrest him.
“It’s frustrating, because in my mind he endangered not only his life but a number of officers that were involved,” Sgt. Dave Odegaard with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office told the newspaper. “He could have very easily injured or killed some innocent people just for the joy of, ‘I was bored.’”
Sheriff's officials say there was no evidence that the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol.
The suspect has been charged with three counts of attempting to elude a police vehicle.
