Police said they have a suspect in custody who they believe crashed a stolen car into an unmanned gate at Fort Meade in Maryland on Wednesday night and then fled onto the campus, which is home to the National Security Agency.

Anne Arundel County police tweeted that officers located the suspect attempting to hide in a wooded area in the viscinity.

Officers initially pulled the car over Wednesday night, but the driver sped off, crashed into a gate at Fort Meade and then ran onto the base, according to police spokesman Lt. Glenn Shanahan. The car was identified as one that had been stolen in a carjacking in Baltimore, Shanahan said. No officers were injured during the incident.

Fort Meade was functioning on reduced operations and six area schools were closed during the manhunt. To help police in the search for the suspect, Fort Meade officials announced Thursday morning that only mission essential personnel should report and residents should remain indoors.
