A suspect has been arrested in the Philadelphia slaying of a New Jersey man who was killed after answering an online advertisement to buy an all-terrain vehicle.

Thomas Coffee, 23, of Willow Grove, Pa., is facing charges of murder and related offenses in the death of Daniel Cooke, of Williamstown, N.J., police said.

Cooke and two other people were in the West Oak Lane section of the city Friday night answering a Craigslist ad for the ATV. Cooke exited the car, walked down the street to look at the purported vehicle and the witnesses heard two gunshots.

Cooke was pronounced dead late Friday.

Coffee, according to court records, has an extensive criminal history, with prior arrests relating to firearms possession, robbery and inflicting serious bodily harm. Most recently, in January 2011, he was sentenced to a minimum of 168 days in prison.

Coffee’s neighbors, however, told MyFoxPhilly that they were shocked to hear he had been accused of murder.

"You don't expect something like that to happen this close to home," a resident told MyFoxPhilly.com.
