LONG ROAD AHEAD: Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the nation has "a considerable way to go to achieve a full recovery in our economy."

PAIN PERSISTS: Americans are coping with near double digit unemployment, lost savings and high home foreclosures, he said.

WHAT WASN'T SAID: Bernanke didn't talk about the Fed taking new steps to juice up the recovery. He did so last month before Congress. Economic growth slowed sharply in the second quarter. The pace is too weak to lower unemployment.
