MINEOLA, N.Y. – A three-year review of a notorious 1980s sex abuse scandal has found no reason to overturn the conviction of one of the men who was found guilty. But the man is vowing to continue fighting to clear his name.
The review was prompted after an Oscar-nominated film questioned whether 44-year-old Jesse Friedman had indeed sexually abused children at his father's computer classes in their New York home. Both pleaded guilty in 1988 to abusing 13 children.
A report released Monday by Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice says the review "has only increased confidence in the integrity" of Friedman's guilty plea.
Friedman's attorney, Ronald Kuby, called the report a "whitewash." Friedman and Kuby say they intend to continue fighting for his exoneration.
Friedman's father committed suicide behind bars in 1995.
