A construction worker has died after being pinned by a beam while working on a new building at Boulder Community Foothills Hospital.

A witness told police that a male employee of Wyatt Construction Co. of Boulder was standing on a steel beam Tuesday when it began to move. The witness says the worker either jumped or fell to the ground before the beam pinned him.

“The worker either jumped or fell to the ground, and the beam fell onto the worker, pinning him to the ground,” Boulder Police spokeswoman Kim Kobel said.

A group of construction workers attached the beam onto a large crane lifting it up so firefighters could get to the pinned worker,  KDVR FOX 31 Denver reported.

A doctor at Boulder Community Hospital later pronounced him dead.

Police say two other workers also were injured, although details are unclear. One was conscious but in pain, while the other complained of a hand injury. Police didn't know their conditions.

Names weren't immediately released.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified about the incident.
