Connecticut State Police say there is no active shooter at a shopping mall despite multiple reports.

State police tell The Courant newspaper that someone yelled that someone else had a gun at the Westfield Meriden mall Thursday night and shoppers started running for the exits.

Meriden police and state police responded to the scene, and officers have been searching the mall.

State police say that reports of an active shooter are unfounded.

The reports come just four days after the shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando that left 49 people dead.

Meriden is located halfway between New Haven and Hartford. The mall has more than 140 shops and is anchored by Sears, Macy's and Boscov's.
