Investigators say a woman was driving drunk when she hit and killed 38 sheep on a county road in southern Colorado.

The Colorado State Patrol says 47-year-old Lynn Ann Michel is facing several charges, including driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, after Tuesday's crash in Rio Grande County.

The Denver Post reports (http://goo.gl/2n7nHU ) 12 other sheep in the herd were injured.

Investigators say the Monte Vista woman fled the scene, but state troopers tracked her down after finding the front license plate of her SUV at the scene of the crash.

Michel declined to comment or provide her attorney's name when reached by The Associated Press on Wednesday night.
