BISHOPVILLE, S.C. – South Carolina corrections officials say they've contained a disturbance at a maximum security prison.
Corrections Department spokeswoman Stephanie Givens said in a statement that the incident began around noon Thursday at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville.
Givens says an officer was trying to search an inmate and several inmates attacked seven officers.
Givens says corrections officers and the State Law Enforcement Division secured the prison after the disturbance.
The officers were treated and released from medical facilities outside the prison. Givens said two inmates were treated by the prison medical staff.
She says the attack is still being investigated.
