SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. – A 27-year-old man died after falling through the ice while snowmobiling in Dudley, Mass.
Richard Redfield and two friends were snowmobiling on a pond when they fell through the ice and into the freezing water.
Redfield was submerged in the 30F to 40F water for at least 15 minutes and was unconscious when he was pulled from the pond.
He died at the Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard hospital in Webster, Mass., either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, according to a spokesman for the Worcester district attorney's office cited by the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.
The other two men -- Jeffrey Lougie, 37, from Dudley, and 47-year-old Wayne Montigny, from Killingly, Conn. -- managed to get out of the water quickly, with help from local fire and rescue crews.
One of the men refused medical treatment, and the other was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the newspaper.
