Authorities say a small plane landed safely on a southwest Florida highway before eventually taking off again.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office says the pilot was experiencing mechanical issues before landing on U.S. 41 near Naples on Sunday.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Karie Partington tells the Naples Daily News (http://bit.ly/1TvRlz3 ) that the pilot was a flight school student and was not injured.

The pilot was able to restart the plane and eventually took off a short time later.
