DEFIANCE, Ohio – A veterans service officer says an Ohioan suspected of killing three relatives and himself was being treated for disabilities related to military service in Vietnam and recently suffered a stroke.
Defiance County veterans service officer Mike Williams wouldn't discuss what disabilities 68-year-old Robert Garza Sr. had.
The sheriff also mentioned Garza's unspecified health problems and said it's unclear whether they might have sparked the shooting.
Authorities suspect Garza killed his wife, daughter and 15-year-old granddaughter. The four bodies were found Thursday in the family home about 60 miles southwest of Toledo.
Williams says he knew Garza as a client and friend and knew of no reason why the retired factory worker might become violent.
