YAPHANK, New York -- Detectives investigating the discovery of 10 sets of human remains along a New York beach parkway have linked one of them to body parts found 15 years ago, several miles away.

The remains were found in April near Jones Beach. Police said Tuesday that they have been matched by DNA testing to body parts found in 1996 on Fire Island.

Suffolk County homicide detectives believe one or more serial killers may be responsible for many of the 10 sets of remains.

Police also have released sketches of two of the unidentified victims in hopes that someone will come forward with information.

Detectives have received more than 1,200 tips since the first bodies were found strewn along Ocean Parkway in December.
