PROVIDENCE, R.I. – State prosecutors have informed the court that they plan to seek life without parole for a Rhode Island man accused of murdering an 83-year-old woman in 2010.
Amy Kempe, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, said Monday that the punishment would be sought if Robert Lamoureux (LAM'-uh-roo) Jr. pleads guilty to first-degree murder or is convicted at trial. The 52-year-old Lamoureux is accused of fatally beating Pauline Buco in her Pawtucket home.
Kempe says prosecutors are seeking life without parole because Buco's death involved "aggravated battery." Lamoureux has pleaded not guilty.
Police say Lamoureux claimed he was paid to kill Buco. No one else has been charged.
Lamoureux previously served prison time for another killing.
A message was left for Lamoureux's defense attorney.
