TULSA, Okla. – A prosecutor will not seek charges against a pair of Oklahoma troopers involved in the fatal shooting of a Tulsa pastor who had been told to leave a flooded area.
Okmulgee County District Attorney O.R. Barris said Thursday that the troopers have been cleared in the May 29 shooting death of Nehemiah Fischer. He said the use of lethal force by troopers Mark Southall and Michael Taylor was justified.
Fischer was shot after troopers responded to a call of a vehicle stranded in floodwaters. Video from a dash camera shows troopers ordering Fischer and his brother out of the water and Fischer lunging at a trooper.
The Oklahoma State Patrol has said Fischer knocked over a trooper before being shot.
Fischer was an assistant pastor at Faith Bible Church.
