Both prosecutors and defense attorneys say bad choices led to the death of a black man, shot by a white Charlotte police officer two years ago as he sought help after a car crash.

The defense lawyer for officer Randall Kerrick said Jonathan Ferrell's choices to scream at a homeowner and kick and beat her door, then charge officers before they could talk to him all stacked up to give Kerrick a reason to fear for his life and use deadly force in the September 2013 shooting.

But prosecutors say Kerrick made the bad choice, panicking when he saw an agitated man and shooting before Ferrell could do anything threatening.

Ferrell's voluntary manslaughter trial continues Tuesday. Dashboard camera video of the shooting is expected to be shown at some point.
