A Nashville prosecutor has told a judge that he wants two former Vanderbilt University football players who were previously convicted of rape to be retried as quickly as possible.

Attorneys were in court Wednesday trying to agree on a new trial date for Brandon Vandenburg and Cory Batey. They were convicted on multiple counts and were being held in jail awaiting sentencing when a Nashville judge set aside their guilty verdict last month.

The request to set aside the verdict came after defense attorneys were alerted that the jury foreman had been a victim of statutory rape when he was a teen but failed to disclose it.

Vandenburg, Batey and two other former players are all accused of raping an unconscious 21-year-old student in a dorm room in June 2013.
