Mary Nunes was a child when her mother fled with her to Central America in a custody dispute 10 years ago.

Her mother returned to New Hampshire last month without her to face a custodial interference charge in Coos County but won't say where the girl, now 18, is. She says her daughter is safe.

A hearing on the case is scheduled for Thursday, and the prosecutor is expected to ask the judge to order that Nunes be brought out of hiding and that she be evaluated, free from her mother's influence.

Nunes' mother, Genevieve Kelley, is free on bail but under orders to have no contact with her daughter. Kelley's lawyer says the prosecutor has no legal basis to support the request.
